Police have arrested 3 persons in Vavuniya who had attempted to obtain a ransom of Rs. 1.5 million after kidnapping a businessman.
 
The arrests were made today (Dec. 27).
 
Police said that the businessman has arrived in the island from Ukraine on 17th of this month to visit his relatives in Vavuniya.
 
His brother had lodged a complaint with Vavuniya Police saying that his brother was missing.
 
It was found that the 3 suspects had kidnapped the businessman while he was coming to Vavuniya and detained him at a house in Palai.
 
After the relatives had delayed the payment of the ransom, the kidnappers have released the businessman in Kilinochchi after obtaining a letter that he would pay Rs. 1.5 million after being freed.
 
The suspects aged between 27 and 45 years are residents of Vavuniya and Palai.
