Minister of Highways and Higher Education, Lakshman Kiriella says that Sri Lanka Medical Council agreed to recognize SAITM medical faculty students with 5 weeks of clinical training, as doctors.

The Minister made this comment addressing the 14th diploma-awarding ceremony of the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education held in Colombo today (Dec. 30).

However, the Sri Lanka Medical Council rejected the statement made by the Minister.

Speaking to our news team, the Registrar of Sri Lanka Medical Council, Dr. Terrence de Silva revealed that an official consensus on this matter has not been made as yet.

He further stated that although discussions were held on this matter, no decision has been made on the required period of training.
