Welikanda resident fined for killing wild elephant

Polonnaruwa Magistrate has fined Rs. 200,000 on a resident of the Dimbulana area in Welikanda, Polonnaruwa for killing a wild elephant by electrocution.
 
The fine was announced when the relevant case was taken up before Polonnaruwa Magistrate Kumari Dharmakeerthi yesterday (Jan. 02).
 
The suspect had fled the area after the death of the wild elephant in his land on 13th of December, 2017.
 
The 54-year-old suspect was produced before the court yesterday by the Polonnaruwa office of the Wildlife Conservation Department.
