The nurses of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital are continuing their strike action for a 3rd day today (Jan. 06).

They commenced a token strike last Wednesday against the installation of thumbprint machines in the hospital.

The nurses’ unions decided to continue their strike action as authorities were unresponsive to their token strike.

Hospital administration decided to stop the daily clinic activities and surgeries as a result of the strike action.

The Public Services United Nurses' Association said that the director of the hospital should be removed from the post and the issue should be resolved immediately.

Director of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, Dr. N.S.A. Senarathna said that a restraining order was issued by Nugegoda District Court last afternoon ordering the strike action to be called off immediately.
