Minister of Wildlife and Sustainable Development Gamini Jayawickrama Perera says that inspection of remains suspected to be those of the "Kallaru Tusker", which were found from Pukkulama in Wilpaththu suggest that it was not killed.

The Minister further said that it is believed that the tusks had been removed after the tusker had died.

Police seized a pair of 4-foot long tusks believed to have been extracted from the "Kallaru Tusker" on December 28th in Tantirimale.

Three suspects were also arrested during the special police raid.

The suspects have already been remanded until the 12th of this month.

Meanwhile, environmental organizations point out that 3 more tuskers that were roaming in the vicinity of Wilpaththu are reported missing.
