Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau officials in Vavuniya have foiled an attempt by an 18-year-old married woman from going abroad after producing fake information.

She was attending training at a SLFEB-run center when she was apprehended by the officials.

It was revealed that she had earlier gone to Kuwait, when she was aged 15, using altered documents.

Then she had returned home after one year to marry.

She had told the officials that she wanted to go abroad again as they are now facing economic hardships.

According to SLFEB, the minimum age for a Sri Lankan woman to go to Saudi Arabia to be employed is 25 years.

The minimum age for Sri Lankan women to be employed in Kuwait is 23 years and the minimum age for other Middle East countries is 21 years.
