A tense situation was reportedly erupted at the weekly Cabinet meeting held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena today (Jan. 16).

At the start of the Cabinet meeting, the President had complained that United National Party Ministers are criticizing him for appointing the Bond Commission and accusing him of trying to destroy the UNP.

A senior Minister said that the President had asked UNP Ministers to run the government alone if the criticism is continued.

Then the President had walked away from the meeting.

Thereafter, the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and another group of Ministers had a meeting with the President and were able to convince him to attend the Cabinet meeting again.

After the Bond Commission report was released a number of UNP Ministers criticized the President.

Meanwhile, addressing the media at the SLFP Headquarters, Colombo, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said that the Bond report will be tabled in Parliament tomorrow (Jan. 17).

He also said that the report will be added to the Parliamentary website thereafter.
