The principal of Badulla Tamil Girls’ School, R. Bawani admitted today (Jan. 19) that she was forced to kneel by Uva Chief Minister, Chamara Sampath at his official residence.

She explained her ordeal to UNP MP, Wadivel Suresh before the Provincial educational authorities.

Principal Bawani also said that Uva Provincial Education Secretary intimidated her over the incident that occurred on the 3rd of January.

The victim said that she was compelled to face this harassment consequent to her refusal to enroll a student sent with the recommendation of the Chief Minister.

One of the candidates contesting the forthcoming LG polls has brought the recommendation letter signed by the private secretary of Chief Minister Chamara Sampath to admit a student to the school, but she had refused to entertain that request.

The victim also said that she was instructed by the Provincial Education Secretary to visit the official residence of the Chief Minister.

She said that the Chief Minister used offensive words to reprimand her and thereafter she was forced to kneel before him and apologize.

She further said that she denied the allegation against the Chief Minister under duress.

Later, MP Suresh Wadivel stated that he will rally round all estate workers to protest if action is not taken against the Chief Minister.
