Minister of Law and Order Sagala Rathnayake says that the Kataragama incident is not an isolated one and it stems from lack of training and professionalism in the Police Department.
 
The Minister in a Twitter message said that failure to address core issues diligently will throw the country into similar situations time and time again.
 
The Minister said to avoid reoccurrence of such incidents drastic reforms will soon be introduced to Police with help of foreign experts.
 
Meanwhile, the funeral of the 25-year-old father of one who killed in recent police fire in Kataragama will be held this afternoon (Jan. 23).
 
The Special Task Force has been deployed in the town to ensure law and order.
 
Following his death, the area resident became violent and attacked the Kataragama Police Station.
 
Later, 58 persons were arrested and they were granted bail by the Tissamaharama Magistrate.
 
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has also commenced a probe into the shooting incident.
 
It was found that the deceased even did not have a proper home and now police have decided to build a house for his family.
