Badulla principal makes 7-hour statement at SLHRC

The principal of Badulla Girls’ School, R. Bhavani who was allegedly forced by the Uva Chief Minister to kneel before him has made a 7-hour statement to the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission today (Jan. 25).

At the same time, Uva Education Secretary, Sandhya Ambanwala, and 6 others were also summoned before the Commission to record statements with regard to the incident.

Accordingly, Provincial Education Secretary, Provincial Education Director, Zonal Education Director and a representative of the Badulla OIC have appeared before Commission today.

Lanka Teachers' Association had complained to the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission about the incident.

Meanwhile, our correspondent said that the staff of the Badulla Tamil Girls’ School protested when the newly appointed Provincial Tamil Education Minister, Senthil Thondaman visited the school today.

Meanwhile, Uva Provincial Governor, M.P. Jayasinghe told our news team that action will be taken against 3 officials including Uva Provincial Education Secretary, Sandhya Ambanwala, and Provincial Education Director when he receives the investigation report.
