Parliamentary debate: Party leaders fail to reach consensus

Party leaders' meeting, which was held at the Parliament to decide whether to hold the debate on Bond Commission and other commission reports has ended without an agreement.

The parliamentary group leader of the Joint Opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardena confirmed it.

The meeting was chaired by the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

 
Chairman of the Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya was also invited to attend the meeting.
 
Prior to the commencement of the meeting, JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told our news team that his party intends to propose that the debate is held over two days, before 7th of February.
 
Speaking to our news team, Joint Opposition Group Leader, Dinesh Gunawardena said that his group is ready to participate in the debate at any time before the election.
 
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena has advised officials to take necessary action to retrieve the losses that was incurred to the Government by the Central Bank Bond scam.
 
The President gave the directive at yesterday's political party leaders' meeting.
