Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission rejects Uva CM’s request

Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has rejected a request by Uva Chief Minister, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake to appear before the Commission on another day.

A notice was served on Dassanayake to appear before the Commission on 1st of February in connection to the case where he has been accused of forcing the principal of Badulla Tamil Girls’ School to kneel down before him.

The Chief Minister has informed the Commission that he will not be able to appear on the given day as he is busy with election meetings.

However, the Human Rights Commission has informed the Chief Minister that excuse cannot be accepted.

The Commission has informed Uva Provincial Chief Minister, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake in writing that evading the Commission without a logical fact could be a punishable offence.
