Special team to leave for Abu Dhabi to bring Udayanga Weeratunga

Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera says a special team consists of seven members will leave for Abu Dhabi tomorrow (Feb. 07) to negotiate extradition of former Sri Lanka Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga.

Weeratunga was arrested while he was at the Dubai International Airport to take a flight to the USA.

He was arrested by Interpol.

The team will comprise of one official each from Financial Crimes Investigation Division, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and two officials each from Attorney General's Department and Criminal Investigation Department.

The Police Spokesperson said it will be a diplomatic process and those officials will have discussions with Abu Dhabi authorities regarding the matter.
