The Additional Election Commissioner, M. M. Mohamed says that 175,000 public servants will be on duty during this Saturday’s Local Government election.
 
He went on to say that it is a punishable offence for public servants to not report to duty.
 
The Election Commission instructed police to remove election campaign posters and cut-outs as all campaigning activities were required to end from last midnight.
 
The candidates are authorized to maintain their party offices at their homes however displaying posters, flags or cut-outs at those offices are not permitted.
 
The Election Commission further stated that stern legal action will be taken against those who violate the election law.
 
The Commission also urged the voters only to use a cross (x) to cast their vote.
 
Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekera pre-election period is so far peaceful.
 
He added that around 65,000 police officers will be deployed for duty during the Election Day.
