Our correspondents say that voters in many areas were seen voting at the Local Government election with much enthusiasm.
 
They said that long queues were seen in some polling stations.
 
Voter turnout in Trincomalee district has exceeded 50 percent while in Vavuniya district it has reached to around 45 percent.
 
Voter turnout in Badulla district in the morning has been around 40 percent.
 
Voter turnout in Ratnapura, Kegalle, and Gampaha districts have been around 30 percent thus far while in Ampara and Monaragala districts voter turnout was around 25 percent.
 
Voter turnout in Nuwara Eliya as at 12 noon was 20 percent while in Gampaha the figure stood at 30 percent.
 
Around 20 percent voter turnout was reported in Anuradhapura and Matale districts.
 
Voting in the North is also taking place peacefully.
 
However, a vehicle carrying officials deployed on election duty had met with an accident in Vavunia.
 
Our correspondents stated that a high turnout of women was seen at polling booths in Galle.
