39 including 8 candidates arrested for violating election laws

Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara addressing a media conference following the conclusion of the Local Government Election in Colombo said that 39 individuals were arrested for violating election laws.
 
He further noted that 8 candidates were among them.
 
Incidents of violating election laws were reported from Uhana in Ampara, Kochchikade in Negombo and Kovilgala in Kantale.
 
Police stated that 7 suspects were arrested in connection to these incidents.
 
Meanwhile, a United National Party candidate was hospitalized after he was allegedly assaulted by Minister S. B. Dissanayake and his son near a polling station located at Udadelthota Tamil School in Galaha, Kandy.
 
Police said that a party representative who was at the Perakumba Primary school in Weralugashinna in Nawalapitiya was attacked by a group using a sharp object.
 
Additionally, an incident where a voter being assaulted while travelling to the polling station was also reported from Pudukudiirippu in Mullaitivu.
 
The Police Spokesperson also said that stern legal action will be taken against those who violate election laws during the post-election period.
