The latest data shows that 57 people have been killed in train accidents within 35 days this year.

Most of those victims were those who were walking along rail tracks or travelling on the footboard.

The Security Superintendent of Sri Lanka Railways, Anura Premarathna requested passengers to take necessary precautions in order to avoid train accidents.

Meanwhile, 1,295 commuters had been arrested last year for travelling in trains without a valid ticket.
