The government's plan to provide tabs for advanced level students and teachers has been suspended.

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam confirmed it.

However, the project got the Cabinet green light recently.

Under a 2017 Budget proposal, around 160,000 A/L students and 36,000 teachers were to be given tabs.

The estimated cost of the project was Rs. 4 billion.

However, when the Cabinet met today (Feb. 20), the President has made a request to cancel this programme temporally.
