Police say that the rumour which was being spread that a person who was being treated at Diyatalawa Hospital had run away from the hospital before being discharged, was not true.

However, it was found that the person in question, a resident of Allegama, Diyatalawa had been discharged after being treated.

Police Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera said police have already recorded a statement from him.

The Government Analyst has confirmed that a live hand grenade which was in the possession of a passenger of the bus had caused the explosion and subsequent fire.

19 persons including 12 security forces personnel were injured in the incident which occurred two days ago in Kahagolla.

Police said already statements were recorded from 17 persons.

Only two security forces personnel are still in hospital and police said statements are yet to be recorded from them.

Meanwhile, Army Commander today (Feb. 23) appointed a 5-member Committee to conduct a comprehensive probe into the blast.
