The police curfew which was in place from 8 pm in the Kandy administrative district ended at 6 am today (Mar. 07).

However, STF and security forces have been deployed in Teldeniya, Digana and Pallekele areas to ensure law and order is maintained, Police Spokesperson, SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.

Meanwhile, Hiru correspondent said that the prevailing situation in Kandy is peaceful.

President Maithripala Sirisena imposed 'State of Emergency' for a period of seven days with effect from last afternoon.

Accordingly, police and security forces will be empowered to control any situation that would threaten law and order.

The Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said that all schools in the Kandy administrative district will remain closed today as well.

Meanwhile, seven persons who had acted in an unruly manner in Menikhinna were arrested last night.

The Police Spokesperson said three policemen have also sustained injuries when they attempt to quell the tension.
