Speaker to complain to President & Prime Minister about non-availability of Ministers

The oral questions were not answered in Parliament today(Mar. 09) too as relevant subject Ministers and their deputies were not present in the House.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya expressed regret over the matter and said he would take action to inform the President and the Prime Minister of the situation.

MPs Nalinda Jayatissa, ChiefGovernment Whip, Gayantha Karunathilaka and Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe also intervened to discuss the matter.

Meanwhile, an adjournment debate on the attack unleashed on the farmers’ protest in Tambuttegama was held in Parliament today.

The debate was moved by Joint Opposition MP Shehan Semasinghe.

However, no responsible government Minister was present in the House to answer the questions posed by the opposition MPs.

At that juncture, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake drew the Speaker’s attention to this situation.

Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka and MP Wimalaweera Dissanayake also intervened in the matter.
