The Army says that a loss of approximately Rs.12bn has been caused by the explosion at the Salawa Armory in Kosgama – Avissawella.

The Army said that the loss had been estimated by a committee which conducted investigations into the incident.  

Army Spokesman, Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said that the committee had produced four reports on the incident. 

Accordingly, the Army has taken measures to take disciplinary action against 14 army officers who have been named as responsible for the incident.

Additionally, a plot of land of around 5 acres that belonged to the Army was released for several matters including the re-construction of shops that were destroyed by the explosion.

One person was killed and 47 others sustained injuries when the Salawa Armory exploded on the 5th of June in 2016.

Additionally, 300 houses which were completely destroyed were re-constructed by the Army.

The Army further said that they await the final report of the Government Analyst regarding the cause of the incident.
