The Secretary to the President, Austin Fernando will chair a discussion with regards to the unblocking of the social media sites.
 
The social media sites such as Facebook, Viber, and WhatsApp were temporarily blocked following the recent incidents in Kandy.
 
Secretary to the President, Austin Fernando told our news team that several specific matters relating to the prevailing situation in the affected areas will be taken up for discussion.
 
Meanwhile, another meeting Chaired by the Minister of Law and Order, Ranjith Madduma Bandara began this morning (Mar. 12).
 
The IGP Pujith Jayasundera is also attending it.
 
The discussion is aimed at the measures that need to be taken following the Kandy riots.
 
Senior Police officers of the Central Province, officers of the CID and the Terrorism Investigation Division are participating in this meeting.
 
The government schools which have been closed since March 7 re-opened this morning.
 
Our correspondents said that the attendance was normal.
 
Meanwhile, another meeting was held at the Kandy District Secretariat on measures that should be taken to maintain administrative activities in the district.
 
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs Minister, M. H. A. Haleem.
 
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister, Karunarathna Paranawithana said that new laws should be introduced to prevent social media being used to spread hate speech and views.
