Some residents have filed complaints that garbage that has accumulated for a week in several areas of Colombo city limits, has not been collected.

Maligakanda, Maradana, and Dematagoda are some of the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Municipal Council said that this situation has erupted as residents have not segregated the garbage before they are
disposing of them.

In a communiqué, the Colombo Municipal Council said that the Garbage Yard maintained by the Land Reclamation and Development Board is not allowing to dispose of unsorted garbage.

Meanwhile, it is reported that large piles of non-degradable pollutants have been released besides the pathway leading to Geththam-pahana
from Nallatanniya in Sri Pada.

Carrying non-degradable materials to Sri Pada has already been banned but some devotees have released such garbage to the forest reserve disregarding the ban.

The in charge of the Nallatanniya Garbage Recycling Center, A. W. Hemantha said that nearly 1.2 million empty plastic bottles have already been collected by the center.
