Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena who is in Japan held bilateral discussions with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo last afternoon (Mar. 14).
 
During the discussions the Japanese Prime Minister has promised to provide funds as grants and not as loans for the development activities in Sri Lanka, the President’s Media Division said.
 
Moreover, the Japanese Prime Minister ensured President Sirisena that he would constantly provide assistance to improve infrastructure in Sri Lanka.
 
Accordingly, Japan will prioritize the development assistance to the port sector.
 
The energy sector, highway projects and technical assistance to other sectors were among the topics discussed, the PMD said.
