The High Commissioner for Human Rights, as requested by the Human Rights Council in Resolution 34/1 of 23 March 2017, will present a written update to the Council on 21st of March 2018 on the implementation of Resolution 30/1 of 1 October 2015 and reconciliation and human rights-related issues in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka delegation, which will attend the 37th session of the Council to be held Wednesday will include the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana, PC., who will lead the delegation, Minister of Special Assignments Sarath Amunugama and Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Mustapha.

The delegation will also include officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Attorney General’s Department, the Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms and Sri Lanka’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva.

This resolution has been themed, “Promoting reconciliation, accountability and human rights”.

Further, the universal periodic review on Sri Lanka is to be passed at the UN Human Rights Council today (Mar. 19).
 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Ravinatha Ariyasinghe will be representing Sri Lanka at the session.
 
Meanwhile, the Global Sri Lanka Forum staged a protest yesterday in front of the UN Headquarters in Geneva.
 
Representatives of the forum from Italy, Britain, Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden and Switzerland staged the protest against the constant interference in Sri Lanka.
