The activities at the state universities have been stalled for 21 days now due to the ongoing strike by the non-academic staff.

Even the examinations of the universities have been affected.

Meanwhile, the undergraduates of the Sabaragamuwa University staged a protest in the Pambawinna Junction yesterday (Mar. 19), demanding the authorities to restore the academic activities.

They said that the authorities should soon address the issues of the non-academic staff.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education yesterday said that they would make an attempt to solve the non-academic strike today.

However, the Co-chairman of the University Joint Trade Union Committee Edward Malwaththage said they do not expect a fair solution from the authorities.

They are planning to stage a protest march from Rajagiriya to Parliament Roundabout this afternoon (Mar. 20).

Meanwhile, the discussion between Government Surveyors Union and Minister of Land Gayantha Karunathilaka ended without an agreement last afternoon.

Union President Duminda Undugoda said that the surveyors will continue their strike.

The surveyors are opposing a planned move by the government to handover land mapping in Sri Lanka to an American company.
