The Joint Opposition says that they might hand over the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to the speaker today (Mar. 21).

Reports say that around 50 signatures have been obtained from MPs.

Joint opposition MP Shehan Semasinghe said that they were in the final phase of obtaining signatures from SLFP and UNP MPs.

Allegations cited against the Prime Minister in the no-confidence motion include,

1) Having Central bank brought under his authority with the ulterior motive of carrying out the bond scam

2) Appointing Arjuna Mahendran, a non-citizen of the country to the post of Central Bank Governor

(3) Being involved in the bond scam

(4) Attempting to protect persons connected to the bond scam

(5) Removing a UNP MP from COPE during the investigations and appointing a new member

The no confidence motion also cites PM as responsible for recent Kandy incidents as the Minister of Law and Order.
