8 bulletproof luxury cars and jeeps used by former Presidents at the time of the war, were disposed of in the Southern deep sea this morning (Mar. 26).

Acting Media Spokesperson of the Sri Lanka Navy, Lt. Commander K. K. C. Udayanga confirmed this to our news team.

The valuable equipment including communication gadgets has been removed before the vehicles were disposed of.

The Government decided to have them discarded as repairs needed by the vehicles would be excessively costly.

The Navy stated that the vehicles are not supposed to be sold in public auctions and in such an instance, the internationally accepted method of disposal is to have them discarded into deep seas.

The 8 vehicles were of American, British, Russian and Indian make.

They were handed over to the Navy by the President’s Office.

The vessel ‘Welling’ which was owned by the LTTE will also be disposed of in the same manner.

Tenders were called on several occasions to auction this vessel, but each time, it received very low bids.

The Navy made use of this vessel over the past several years.

The Acting Navy Media Spokesperson that the vessel is no longer in a usable condition.
