A protest has been launched by workers attached to the Manrasi Estate in Agarapatana urging the police to arrest an estate manager.

The estate manager is accused of allegedly assaulting an estate youth and then locking him inside a deep-freezer.

Police said that the incident had occurred during a party at the Manrasi Estate last night (Mar. 29).

The victim was first admitted to Agarapatana Hospital and later transferred to Nuwara Eliya Hospital for further treatment.

When contacted a spokesperson from Nuwara Eliya Hospital said that the patient’s condition was not serious.

The protesters claim they will not return to work until the estate manager is arrested.
