The no-confidence motion which was moved against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was defeated in Parliament a short while ago.
 
122 members voted against the motion while 76 members voted in support of the motion.
 
26 members had abstained from voting.

Update : Voting for no-confidence motion begins, several SLFP Ministers absent

The voting for the no-confidence motion is now underway.


Our parliament reporter said that Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, Faizer Mustapha, Nimal Siripala, Duminda Dissanayake, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Wijayamuni Soyza and Sarath Amunugama are absent in the House.

It was also found that SLFP Ministers, Lakshman Seneviratne, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Manusha Nanayakkra, Piyasena Gamage, N. Muthuhettigama, A. H. M. Fowzie, M. L. Grero, Sarathi Dushmanth and Sriyani Wijewickrama are also absent.

Arumugan Thondaman, Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, Kader Mastan, Indika Bandaranayake, Muttu Sivalingam and A. Ramanathan, Malith Jayathilaka, and M. A. L. M. Hizbulla were also absent.


Meanwhile, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa voted for the motion while former Minister Wijayadasa Rajapakshe voted against it.
