A discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Parliamentary Group was held at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo this morning (Apr. 05).

The United People’s Freedom Alliance’s General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera told us that MPs who voted for the ‘no-confidence motion’, as well as those who were absent at the time of the vote, participated in this morning’s meeting.

The sources said that they had discussed the future course of action that they should be taken during this meeting.

Meanwhile, a group of United National Party MPs have written to the Prime Minister asking him to have the 6 SLFP Ministers who had voted for the ‘no-confidence motion’ removed from the Cabinet.

33 UNP MPs signed the letter that was sent to the Prime Minister.

Among those Ministers who were listed in the letter are S. B. Dissanayake, W. D. J. Senevirathna, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Susil Premajayantha, Chandima Weerakkody and Dayasiri Jayasekera.

16 Ministers, Deputy Ministers and State Ministers of the SLFP voted for the ‘no-confidence motion’ yesterday.

Altogether 26 MPs abstained from voting.

The absence of Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama and MP Kader Mastan during the vote was significant as they had signed the ‘no-confidence motion’.

Meanwhile, political sources revealed that one of the SLFP Vice Chairmen Nimal Siripala de Silva is scheduled to make a special statement in Parliament in the near future.
