The anticipatory bail application filed by MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage in Court of Appeal seeking to prevent him being arrested by the Financial Crime Investigation Division has been rejected.

The petition was taken before President of the Court of Appeal, Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Shiran Gooneratne.

The panel of judges announced that the FCID has the authority to arrest any person if the investigations revealed sufficient evidence against such a suspect.

The FCID has been investigating MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage as he is accused of misusing Rs. 50 million worth of school sports gear during the last Presidential Election.

Meanwhile, Colombo Magistrate issued summons again to former Secretary to the President P. B. Abeykoon.

The Court has summoned Abeykoon in connection to a case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against MP Johnston Fernando.
