The majority members of the United National Party's Working Committee were of the opinion that there is no need to change the party's leadership.

MP Wijepala Hettiarachchi confirmed this.

Accordingly, the Committee along with another group of MPs are of the view that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe must continue as party leader, the MP said.

Speaking to us following a meeting at Temple Trees today (Apr. 07) MP Hettiarachchi said that the decision was announced following a secret vote.

He added that the UNP Parliamentary Group also took part in the discussion.

Meanwhile, Minister Gayantha Karunathillaka said that a 12-member advisory committee was appointed through a secret ballot to recommend names for other positions in the UNP.
