A special Sri Lanka Freedom Party Central Committee meeting is scheduled to be held at 7 pm this evening (Apr. 09).

The discussion will be held at the President’s official residence with President Maithripala Sirisena at the chair.

Responding to us, Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne said that a decision would be taken at this meeting as to whether the 16 SLFP MP’s holding portfolios as cabinet members, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers, who voted in favour of the 'no-confidence motion' against the Prime Minister, should continue to hold ministerial posts.

During a meeting on Saturday night between the President, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and a group of UNP ministers, it was stated that the government could not continue to run jointly with those SLFP ministers who voted in favour of the no-confidence motion.

Additionally, the SLFP’s future role in the national government will also be discussed at this evening's Central Committee meeting.

However, at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday, UNP Deputy General Secretary, Media Spokesperson, Minister Akila Viraaj Kaariyawasam, said that the Cabinet reshuffle was due to take place prior to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Meanwhile, UPFA General Secretary, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that MPs and Ministers who voted in favour of the 'no-confidence motion' had informed, in writing, that they would not leave the party.

The UPFA General Secretary said this while participating at a function in Weeraketiya yesterday.
