A police officer attached to Pettah Police Station was arrested today (Apr. 09) for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 10,000.
 
The suspect has apprehended a resident of Polonnaruwa who was hanging around in the Fort Railway Station charging him that he has come there to commit a crime.
 
Then he had demanded Rs. 20,000 from the Polonnaruwa resident to not to take legal action against him.
 
The police constable has taken the mobile phone and the NIC of that person to his custody until the bribe is paid.
 
However, after bargaining, the policeman has agreed to a sum of Rs. 10,000 and he was arrested by the officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption while accepting the money.
