The first Cabinet meeting of the Unity Government without the participation of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Ministers took place this morning (Apr. 10).

It was convened under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Secretariat.

Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera said that the Cabinet meeting went ahead without any issue although the SLFP Ministers were absent.

During yesterday’s SLFP Central Committee meeting, the Ministers decided to boycott today's Cabinet meeting.

Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa had proposed that SLFP Ministers should resign from the Unity Government.

Party Treasurer, Minister S.B. Dissanayake seconded the proposal made by Yapa.

However, SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake and UPFA General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera had said that the party should stay on as part of the Unity Government.

In addition, it has been made known that former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga hold the same opinion.

Meanwhile, the SLFP CC is to meet tomorrow to take a final decision with regards to the matter.
