Met Department said that thundershowers will develop over most provinces of the island during next few days until 16th of April.
 
Heavy falls of about 100mm can be expected at some places particularly in hilly areas.
 
The Met Department urged the public to take adequate precautions as severe lightning and temporarily strong gusty winds up to 70-80kmph could be possible during thundershowers.
 
The Department of Meteorology advised people to follow undermentioned instructions during thundershowers:
 
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors, covered vehicles and never under trees
 
  • Avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations and open water bodies
 
  • Avoid using wired telephones and connected electric appliances
 
  •  Avoid using open vehicles, such as bicycles, tractors and boats etc.
 
  • Beware of fallen trees and power lines
