The Ministry of Higher Education says that the temporary non-academic staff at state universities who do not report for duty before 17th of April will be considered as vacated their posts.

More than 15,000 non-academic staff at state universities launched their trade union action on 27th of February.

They demand the authorities solve their issues pertaining to allowances, based on an agreement which was reached in 2016.

At the same time, the permanent staff who do not report to duty will be considered as they had taken no-pay leave.

The communiqué issued by the Higher Education Ministry said that 10% a salary increment has already been granted in order to solve their grievances.

The strike launched by the non-academic staff of the state universities has already completed 43 days.

Meanwhile, the Co-chairman of University Trade Unions Joint Committee, Edward Malwattage said that the strike will not be called off until the salary increments along with arrears are paid as promised by the Minister.
