16 SLFP MP's voted against NCM to sit in opposition

The 16 Sri Lanka Freedom Party Parliamentarians who resigned from their Ministerial portfolios yesterday (Apr. 11) say that they will pose a new challenge to the position of Opposition Leader once they sit in the Opposition.
 
The former Minister, Chandima Weerakkody told us that necessary measures will be taken when the Parliament is convened on 19th of April.
 
6 SLFP Ministers, 4 State Ministers and 5 Deputy Ministers relinquished from their positions from midnight yesterday.
 
The Deputy Speaker also resigned from his post.
 
Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Parliament Neil Iddawela said that seating in the Opposition will be arranged according to the seniority of MPs, to accommodate those MPs who had resigned from their Ministerial posts.
 
The opposition seating slots will increase to 92 when the proposed cross-over is taken place.
 
Meanwhile, the Joint Opposition says that it will submit the resolution to the Speaker with regard to the Opposition Leader's post during the forthcoming Parliamentary session.
 
However, 26 SLFP MPs abstained from voting when the vote was taken on the NCM.
 
Among those were Ministers, Sarath Amunugama, Mahinda Amaraweera, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Duminda Dissanayake, Faizer Mustapha, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Vijith Vijayamuni Soyza and Lakshman Senevirathna.
 
SLFP State Ministers, Piyasena Gamage, Mohan Lal Grero, M.L.A.M. Hizbullah, A.H.M. Fowzie, Sriyani Wijewickrama and Deputy Ministers Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Sarathi Dushmantha, Manusha Nanayakkara, Indika Bandaranayake, Nishantha Muthuhettigama and Muttu Sivalingam were also absent at that time.
 
In addition, MPs Kader Mastan, Malik Jayathilaka, Aarumugam Thondaman, Weerakumara Dissanayake and Angajan Ramanadan were also absent.
