The National Council for Road Safety says the three-wheeler taxis should issue a printed bill to the passengers from today (Apr. 20).

The printed bill should indicate the distance, fare and taxi details.

The Chairman of NCRS, Dr. Sisira Kodagoda said it is compulsory from today and legal action could be taken against three-wheeler operators who do not issue bills.

He said that a grace period of 6 months was given to the three-wheel operators to fix such meters.

However, the unions of three-wheel operators are against this law.

At present, Sri Lanka has around 1 million three-wheelers on the roads.
