The decision will be taken at the next SLFP CC meeting, which will be held between 8th and 15th of May, a party source said.

This was decided at the CC meeting held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at his official residence in Colombo last night (Apr. 25).

The meeting which began at 8 pm was continued for around two and half hours, our correspondent said.

At last night’s meeting, it was also decided that fill the positions in the party and other necessary changes within 45 days.

Meanwhile, the SLFP’s “Group of 16” who resigned from their Ministerial positions in the government had also participated at this CC meeting.

The General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the President permitted them (16 MPs) to sit in the opposition.

The president had however requested them to work together with the SLFP.

The 16 MP’s also came to an agreement yesterday to attend the SLFP May Day rally which will be held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena in Batticaloa on 7th of May.
