President Maithripala Sirisena says that Parliament was prorogued due to the tension prevailing among the parliamentarians after the “no-confidence motion” against the Prime Minister was taken up.

The President said this in an interview with BBC News Sinhala during his stay in London to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting last week.

The President proroguing the Parliament is not a new thing and it was a common practice and was carried out in compliance with the Constitution.

President Sirisena further said that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party would not be divided with the resignation of 16 Ministers from the Government.
