President urges CEB engineers not to strike

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the Public Utilities Commission to implement the approved Long-term Electricity Generation Plan of 2018 - 2037 as soon as possible.

The instruction was issued during a discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (Apr. 25).

The Ceylon Electricity Board has submitted the Long-term Electricity Generation Plan of 2018 - 2037 for approval to the PUCSL.

It contains the new power plants that are needed to be built during the given period.

The President also advised the PUCSL officials, if there are issues to implement the plan, rectify them through discussion with relevant parties.

President also requested the CEB Engineers' Union to suspend the proposed work-to-rule campaign, scheduled for 8th of May.

The Union threaten to take trade union action urging the authorities to implement the Long-term Electricity Generation Plan and rectify other issues faced by the membership.

The discussion was attended by Ministers Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Sagala Ratnayake, Ministry secretary B. M. S. Batagoda, Chairman of CEB, PUCSL Chairman and trade union representatives.
