Legal experts point out that there are errors in the Gazette issued recently by the Presidential Secretariat that announced the stipulated time to inaugurate the Parliament on 8th of May.

The new Gazette was issued on April 23, as the Gazette which was previously issued, on April 12th, to prorogue parliament, did not mention the time of inauguration.

The new Gazette dated April 23, said that the Parliament will be convened at the Sri Jayewardenepura Parliament Meeting Hall, on 8th of May 2018, at 2.15 pm.

The legal experts said that the Parliamentary session should be ended and re-convened under the powers vested with the President under the 1st sub-Article of the 70th Article.

However, they said that the latest Gazette has been issued under the under 4th sub-Article of the 70th Article.
