Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says Sri Lanka is planning to build 3 liquefied natural gas power plants in the future as a solution to rising demand for electricity.

He said that relevant Cabinet paper was submitted to the last Cabinet meeting and it was ratified to take necessary actions.

Accordingly, he said 3 LNG power plants with a total output of 1400 megawatts will be built.

India, China and Japan will assist to build them, the Minister said.

The Minister said the proposal was also approved by the National Economic Council headed by the President.

The Minister revealed this during an event held at Ruwanwella Rajasinghe Central to distribute solar power panels.
