It has been reported that the lives of nearly 10,000 kidney patients are at risk due to the absence of a specialist physician in the Dehiattakandiya Base Hospital.

The Government Medical Officers' Association, Amparai district convener Dr. Chanith Peduruarachchi said that even-though kidney disease is common in the area, the unavailability of a physician has affected patients to a great extent.

Hiru News contacted Medical Superintendent Dr. Mahesh Dahanayake of the Dehiattakandiya Base Hospital regarding the issue.

He added that patients have been greatly inconvenienced due to the absence of a physician.

He revealed that the Ministry of Health had informed them that a specialist doctor would be provided as soon as possible.
