Met Department says that the prevailing rainy condition in the island is expected to enhance from tomorrow (May 04).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several palaces in the most parts of the island after 2 pm.

Showers will occur in the Western, North-western and Southern coastal areas during the morning too.

Fairly heavy falls, about 75mm can be expected in Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Anuradhapura and Vavuniya districts.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers and the general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

The Met Department added that due to the active cloudiness in the Southern and western sea areas, the possibility for heavy showers/thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with a sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Potuvil via Hambantota is high.

It requested the Naval and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regard.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Batticaloa via Galle and Hambantota. Heavy showers will occur in the deep sea areas to the South-East of the island.

Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly in the direction of the sea areas around the island and speed will be 20-30 kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to 40-50 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar and Matara to Potuvil via Hambantota.

Temporarily very strong gusty (up to 70-80 kmph) winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
