The Railway Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Union says they have decided to postpone their planned strike until this afternoon (May 09).

The union said the decision was taken on the request by government committee appointed to resolve their problems.

The Secretary of the union Indika Dodangoda said that a discussion was held last afternoon with Minister Sarath Amunugama, the chairman of the committee appointed to solve the issues faced by railway employees.

The locomotive operators earlier said that the authorities are reluctant to solve their pending salary issue and thus they decided to move ahead with the planned strike.

Meanwhile, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya requested that the work -to -rule trade union action launched last afternoon by CEB engineers be brought to an end.

The trade union action was launched accusing the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka of delaying the approval of Long-term Power Generation Plan submitted by the CEB.

The Minister said that a mixed power generation plan relevant to this would be presented to Cabinet and approval will be obtained today (May 09).
