It was reported to our news team that a plot of land which contained archaeological ruins in the Allewewa forest reserve in the Dimbulagala Divisional Secretariat Division has been allocated for a development project.

This 50-acre plot of land, being taken under development belonged to the Mahaweli Development Authority.

Proof has been found that the ruins are believed to have been of a regional Buddhist Center of the Anuradhapura Primary Era.

Our correspondent said that ruins of a Chetiya, stone pillars and flat roofing tiles could be seen among the destroyed ruins. He said the ruins have been bulldozed beyond recognition.
